Happy Saturday!

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone." -Audrey Hepburn

I just love this quote from Audrey Hepburn. She had a way of stating things so eloquently.

A Girl Can Dream...

Marie Antoinette (2006)- One of my favorite movies not so much for the acting (with the exception of Jason Schwartzman) but the cinematography made every minute worth it and more! If you haven't seen it by now it's a must. Don't ask me why I'm bringing this up, maybe because spring is just around the corner and I can't wait to see some color!

Amy Cutler Makes Me Smile

Now this is Getting Out of Hand!

Say it ain't so!

Conde Nast announced today that it is ceasing publication of the style magazine, Domino, and the mag's website as well.

Martha, oh Martha

There is something way under-rated about receiving beautiful flowers wrapped in paper don't you think? If you want the specifics on this click here. Compliments of the one and only Ms. Martha Stewart.

Snowed In

It's official. The 6th largest amount of snow Indy has ever seen. 12 1/2 inches since noon yesterday. We had to shovel a path in the yard so Trixie could go out, and once she was out there she blended right in with her surroundings. All you could see were two little brown eyes starring back at you. It's very apparent that my downstairs hardwoods are going to benefit from a good mopping when this all said and done.
I guess it's serendipitous that just a few weeks ago I learned to knit. This is my first official finished project (a few scarfs were abandoned along the way) I used thick and thin yarn and size 13 needles. I always thought I couldn't learn because I'm a lefty and anyone who tried had trouble teaching me. Turns out after taking a class they just taught me to do it the same as everyone else in my class and I picked it right up. There is hope for anyone!
I'm off to make lunch for my frozen husband who just finished shoveling the drive. Homemade chicken soup for him!
Is it spring yet?

Stupid Failing Economy

Timing is everything, and between oil and the housing crisis and the end of print journalism as we know it, now might not be the best time for a high-end "living" magazine.

At least that's what the folks at Vogue Living seem to have concluded. WWD is reporting that the Vogue spin-off will not publish a scheduled second issue. A Vogue spokesperson said that "given the current ad climate, this wasn't the time to roll out a second issue," though they are apparently still considering a 2009 issue.

This was the single best magazine I have ever put my hands on. It sat in my studio for at least six months while I was preparing for my thesis show. Juicy colors filled every page. The interiors featured were all vastly different but all equally appealing. I flipped through it over and over for inspiration until every page was dog eared. Am I the only one to ever come to covet this issue?

Now Showing

It's been a while since I've shown my work but here is a piece that's currently hanging in a show in Zionsville, IN at the SullivanMunce Cultural Center. The theme for the show is "The Art of Love"
In this 28th annual event local amateur and professional artists showcase their talent in the Mahaney Gallery until February 28, 2009.
I sewed a vintage Valentine to some red velvet fabric and went from there. It's titled "Don't Change a Hair for Me."

Powder Room Makeover

"How hard could it be?" Famous last words right there. That was the kiss of death. I quickly realized Friday night that my wallpaper attempt was a wash. As is sat on the couch waiting for yet another contractor to call back, (who never did) I decided to once again take matters into my own hands. I turned to the one solution I was capable of: PAINTING.
I knew I wanted something more sophisticated than the "golden girls green" that was on the walls, so I figured if I couldn't have my wallpaper I would at least take a sample of it to the store and have the color matched. I also knew I wanted to work in the metal fleur de lis plaque I picked up in Sarasota on our New Years trip too. The little things eventually fell into place from there over the course of the weekend. I'm more than thrilled with the results and for that I'm super thankful!

Weekend Warrior take 1

It's about 5pm on Friday and I need a project for the weekend. I've decided to try my hand a wallpapering. Since I can't seem to get anyone to come and give me quote I will take it on myself.
(Anyone who knows me will vouch that patience is not one of my virtues.)  How hard could it be right? Story developing....

First Lady Decorating Smackdown: Jackie vs. Nancy, Round 1

This is a great article by Nick Olsen for Domino Magazine. In it Olsen examines several rooms in the White House re-done by former First Ladies over the years.
"Most of us know the legend of Camelot where Francophile Jacqueline Kennedy saves the White House from dingy disarray with a massive restoration/ redecoration project care of Maison Jansen's Boudin. No other First Lady before or since could compete, right? Nancy Reagan, oft-remembered as spendthrift with a penchant for Chanel and astrology, spearheaded her own renovation (using private funds) including the entire second and third floors via her decorator Ted Haber, protege of Billy Haines. And it ain't as Dynasty-does-democracy as you might expect. Time to settle the score! First compare Jackie's powder blue dressing room."

Say it Simply

A few months back I was introduced to a lovely little website called It's super easy to use software and very reasonably priced. The black text is a quote from the Johnny Cash song, "Rose of My Heart" that my husband and I danced to at our wedding. Not only can you create your own but Say it Simply also has a gallery of pre-made words and quotes for you to browse. I used their "Bon Appetit" lettering above the doorway to our dining room.

Wallpaper Galore!

I've recently discovered that Sherwin Williams has an amazing website for wallpaper. The have more categories than I can count and I found exactly what I needed for my downstairs powder room makeover. My husband ordered it for me on Friday and it was here today (Monday). Easy and hassle-free. Now if I could just find someone to hang it...

How neat is this?

Ever had a craving to relive your favorite music videos from the 90's? Or even more hard to come by current videos? Finally MTV has compiled them all into one outlet. Check it out: It's sure to make hours of any boring afternoon disappear.

Guilty Pleasure

OK snarky first thoughts aside, I'm telling you this is a great book. I read it in 2 days over the Christmas holiday, and anyone who watched 90210 (the original) will appreciate this little slice of tell-all heaven. Tori Spelling dishes on everything from her rocky relationship with her mother (and boy has it been rocky) to leaving her first husband only to fall right back in love again. I promise you'll be hooked the first few pages in.
